1st Loop @ Thomas is OPEN!

Postby iLuvTechnical » Sat Jun 13, 2009 9:07 pm

The first loop of Thomas Park is NOW OPEN :D
(W/ the exception of one fallen tree I didn't have the energy or gas to cut out of the way. I ran out of gas as I was cutting it and it was a long way back to the car.)

It needs riders to pack it while it's fresh. NO thorns or poison ivy to worry about  The next loop may take me a while b/c I have the kids for the next two wks and I won't be able to get out there b4 work like I had been doing. So....
please be patient.

Where at in Thomas? I would love to ride it this week when the ground dries some. Oh also, maybe I'll bring a chainsaw out there when I go if that tree is still in the way.

Park at the back parking lot and head South on the multipurpose trail and just as you round the corner there is a trail to your right.

That is the entrance of the first short loop of more to come.

I don't know what was in my beer yesterday, but I started being nice yesterday for a while, and then I passed out. Do Ruphies do that? Where did that beer come from after the work day? Not that I drank beer at Beverly mind you, that would be illegal.

Went to Goodwill on my lunch break today and saw you out riding. I'm gonna go ride this tonight in about an hour.

I needed a stress reliever. It's good to have your bike at work with you.

I need to start bringing mine more often.

Chris, I rode your trail about 2 or 3 times each way, its a pretty cool little area right there, I remember riding my dirt-board (skateboard with monster truck wheels) down some super steep hills through the woods at thomas right around that area.

There could be some damn good fast flowing parts on those steep areas on the way up the hill west from your trail and then down and towards the parking lot.

Where do you work?

I didn't make it to Chris's trail today, but I intend to tomorrow or Wednesday.

I work at Paetec (the old McleodUSA) in Hiawatha, off of Boyson Rd. It's pretty close to the CVNT so I go walk out there during my break a lot, and sometimes bring my bike and ride.

Where do you work? I wish there was some singletrack around there we could go ride it on lunch :). there's a little dirt loop off of the trail in the woods I walk sometimes, but I think its too flat to be a whole lot of fun on a mtb.

I'm happy that you got a chance to get out there.

Is that good or bad (bad, as in terrible, not bad is in BAD A$$)?

Just so you know, the next loop should be more "flowy" than technical.
As a matter of fact, I was just looking at a reroute in the 1st loop in one spot so it won't be so tight. I think it will be just a little better than the current way.

Went out to Thomas tonight with the family in search of the trail and came up short. Where exactly does it start? We ended up looping around the back of the disc golf course and ended up on Armar Dr. If we come out of the parking lot is it the trail heading into the woods right away up the hill once you hit the wooded section? If so that is what we have been using for cyclocross practice, and know the area well.

Is that the trail that goes up the hill right away? Probably best to start with a little momentum coming off the paved trail?
