Best tire for rough, rocky trails

Postby urbanbigfoot » Fri Feb 18, 2011 8:35 am

I'm taking a trip down down to Arkansas this spring to ride some trails around Hot Springs and Mount Ida (Womble). I hear some of the trails are pretty rocky, rooted, and all around rough (so pretty much awesome). I'm looking for suggestions on a good tire for these types of conditions.
When I was a kid, I rode bikes. Now I ride bikes and act like a kid. Some things never change.

My WTB Prowlers worked well down there last year. I would think that aggressive tires would work well b/c you don't have to worry to much about mud/dirt packing in them. Like you said, there is a lot of loose rock.
I think Konabiker's tires worked fine also, which makes me think that maybe you are over thinking your tire situation just a bit. As long as you don't have slicks, I think you should be fine.
There is always someplace in the world dry enough for kick'n up a little dirt.

Schwalbe Fat Albert. I think I have a set you can use / have. They're 2.3's though. 26" and I can't use them.
If you're gonna be dumb, you better be tough.
