Whoa... Blaster Master, Battletoads, Rygar... all pretty tough but Mega Man 1 takes the cake IMO; unless you use the pause trick with the electric weapon. There are more difficult games, however, Stinger and Deadly Towers to name a few not shown in the vid.

Yep, I'm a legit 8-bit old school game geek who's broken a few controllers (they're tough) by throwing them. These days the only 8-bit action I see involves alcohol along with Chicago vs. San Francisco in Tecmo Bowl with some NESkimos playing in the background...

The orginal TMNT and Top gun were probably the most difficult games I actually *tried* beating. I'm pretty sure there's actually no way to land your jet in the first level of Top Gun. None.

In a lesser known game, Karnov, I found an obsessive challenge. I don't think I ever beat that game either.

...and don't get me started on TMNT.

great thread!!!

Metroid!

Two endings too, one with helmet removal and the other with full suit; the creators must've known their target market was adolescent nerds. I forgot about Karnov! Crazy. Russian Attack, Castlevania, Ghosts & Goblins were all fairly difficult more because of the lack of player control... Blaster Master, amazing.

Castlevania!

Not sure if Nintendo was the best or just what old gamers are most nostalgic about. Beyond Nintendo the only game that I really miss the joy of is Golden eye

Golden Eye could go down as the most groundbreaking and influential game ever. That game blew everyone away.

Nostalgia? Likely, but go back and play those games. Not just the graphics are vastly different, but the gameplay was so much more challenging than the crap we have today. There's nothing like a strong and challenging 2D scroller! Forget all this 3D FPS stuff....

Now, back to Castlevania!
