Women's 24hr race team

Women's 24hr race team

Postby mem » Tue Dec 09, 2008 9:58 pm

Hey all,
Am looking for three other women that want (or are crazy enough) to do a 24hr (12hr?) race in 2009 as a team. Don't have to be a current member of a race team, just need to have some off road riding experience and be willing to put in some prep time. Would be great if they can fix a flat and a few other minor mechanical stuff, but I am happy to teach if they cannot. Right now am looking at 24hrs of Seven Oaks or one at Afton Alps in MN. Please pass along if you know any!
Thanks.

I'm actually thinking about a womens team for the 12 hour at the 24-9 in Wausau, Wisconsin: http://www.24-9.com/

Or, if the 24 race comes back to Landahl in 2009 (Blue Springs, MO).

The 24-9 is a HUGE event due to its national championship standing and course is cool. 14 mile loop. My husband does the 24 hour race, but that's a bit much for me. I thought the 12 hour race would be awesome. Husband is thinking about doing the 12 hour solo.

I've got moderate technical skills but definitely need to work on fitness level. Can change a tire!! Can do some repairs. Can drink beer!

She can. I've seen her do all the above
There is always someplace in the world dry enough for kick'n up a little dirt.

COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have wanted to participate on a women's team for a couple years. While I have moderate technical riding abilities, my fitness level isn't fabulous. I have been working to improve that over the last year and now the anticipation of hitting a race or two will help my motivation. How competitive are you? Would you be disappointed with, "hey we finished midpack, that was fun" perspective? Or, are you looking for a higher intensity? I'm about having fun but doing the best I can.

I have some friends who might help fill the other team slots. I will email them and see what they think. They're more 24 hour people versus 12 hour, so I imagine they will be strongly encouraging us to ramp it up to the 24 hour category.

Mem, I'm excited! Let's also talk at some point about the races you are considering. Any idea when in the year they normally happen?

Chris, thanks for the vote of confidence!

Mem, we've got a 4-women 24 hour race team for the 24-9 in Wisconsin if you're game! Two PAMBA riders who have raced the 24-9 the last two years on co-ed teams were all about a women's team for 2009. I'll PM you...
