Removed user. Sorry.

I would like to apologize for the user that posted all the porn spam in the forum today. If your children saw it, I'm really sorry. I can't check everybody that signs up and I let that account go through. The account was registered over a week ago and didn't post until today.

Michelle on the other hand is legitimate but until tonight was having problems registering. Sorry Michelle.

Now that you are activated you can change any of the information in your profile page. I also think I have fixed the avatar problem.

On a related note, we get about 50 accounts per day rejected by the first round of filtering. About 1 to 2 per week actually make it to the next level of acceptance (where I have to click on a link to activate them). In the last couple of weeks I have been putting the ban hammer into use and cut our first round filtering down to 20 accounts per day. The first round of filtering requires no additional work on my part.

Some of you also may find it interesting to note that the internet overall is experiencing a lull in spam messages. About a month ago, a major ISP pulled the plug on a huge spammer. Spam traffic across the internet dropped over 50%. It still increases everyday but it is predicted it will take a couple more months to get the spam levels up to pre-October levels.

No apology necessary, you're not omnipotent. Just sad it has to get that way. You shouldn't have to put that much work in. My truck club has a folder for material that is not safe for viewing at work. Spammers tend to respect that. I see a porn or hot vid title on a bike board, I assume its bike pics or clips. If I see it in the NWS folder, I know to avoid it. I don't log onto my truck club board to look at pRon any more than I do the bike sites, but some fellas see it different. It's a thought I suppose.

I am having the same problem with our new forum, which is vBulletin. I plan on updating to the latest stable release tonight, which hopefully will take care of the problem for us.

For some reason we never had spamming problems with our old forum, which didn't have any protection in place whatsoever...

No need to apologize. All is working well and I appreciate all the work you have put into the site, as do many others, I'm sure. You can't be held responsible for the "stuff" others put on the site. I am happy to help in any way I can, although I am not great with web stuff!

The sweetnettie user looks like a spammer. If you Google for that user's email address, it's listed on spam lists. Also, a whois lookup shows the domain is registered to someone in Egypt.

The TomPeems user may also be a spam account. That email address appears on a spam list in a Google search and is on some unusual foreign sites.

Nah, not your fault if some spammers get in. I found this site http://www.stopforumspam.com/ Which has a list of IP addresses of forum spammers, it is a well done site, and it has an API here http://www.stopforumspam.com/apis that would let you query an IP address to see if it's on their blacklist. I haven't ever set up a forum, but I'm assuming you could add an API call to their list to the registration process on this board preventing spammers by IP blacklist.

But then again blacklisting is only as good as the list, you wouldn't want to block any legitimate users either.

Just an idea, not sure what stuff you have set up anyway.
