Trail condidtions?

Anyone going out this morning to see what kind of shape the trails are in? Wonder if they were able to absorb that rain or if they will be out of commission for a bit.

Fatty ride tonight if trails are open.

They were in great shape for the TT wednesday evening. Haven't been out today, but believe they should be similar after ~.7" rain wednesday night.

Be sure to check out the new skinny on 301 right before the entry to Troll Bridge!

Monday, Oct 15
Got close to 2 inches of rain this weekend at sugar. Normally that would shut us down for a week this time of year. But, one would think it will soak right in the bone dry ground. We'll check the conditions tonight to see if trails can open for Tuesday.

I'm going to be visiting Iowa City this weekend and I'm hoping to check out the trails while I'm there. Unfortunately, I see that the trail status says that the trails are closed.

Is that trail status thing usually up to date? Anyone care to guess if the trails might be ride-able by this weekend?

The trail status is kept up to date, it's very reliable.

I am hoping that sugar bottom will be dry for a good sunday ride. As for a guess...I don't know, we got a lot of rain, but it's also been REALLLLLLLLLLLLLY dry so I think we have a pretty good shot at it.

I put signs in at squaw creek today. Thought with the rain we've had the soil would be wet for a ways down. It wasn't. Not even a foot down, it was as dry as moondust.

On Oct 20 we were working @ sugar and trails were too wet to ride but only 3 inches down and it was bone dry, moon dust some might say. We've got another 1.5 inches since then and more leaves have fallen on the trail. I'm a little surprised how long its taking the top surface to dry though, one would think the subsoil is like a sponge now. I guess the high humidity and leaves are slowing it down. We've gotta get used to fall riding and waiting a week for trails to dry. Its a switch from the rest of this year and having the trails open for a month at a time. I'm hopin they'll be open by the weekend.

Same with Beverly, slick as snot on top and just not drying out due to the high humidity and lower night time temps. With Bev being lower mileage we were able to leaf blow the system, hopefully setting the stage for good conditions (barring precip.) for autumn riding and the upcoming trail running event... http://www.cvra.net/calendar/icalrepeat ... -trail-run
